The things I know
By Hammer Bro
I wrote this email for a someone who contacted me through twitter the other day. He was interested in working with me on overflow projects and wanted to know a little bit about me so I wrote it allllll down (or most of it anyway). As of today, it’s probably the most accurate information I have in terms of where I am in my career and what I’m capable of doing so I figured I’d reuse it and share with the world!
I’ve been working full time for a company here in Hamilton (#HamOnt) for 2 years now. It’s only been recently that I’ve decided to work outside of work (again). Prior to that I had older clients I did work for, but to be honest, if I was looking to hire someone and saw my old portfolio… I’d pass on me as it’s pretty outdated now with the newer stuff coming into play on the web and it really is this newer stuff that counts anyway. It should be an accurate depiction of what I’m capable of as of today.
Here are some links to recent projects I’ve been working on where I work currently, SynergyPro Solutions.

In terms of training, I studied at Fanshawe for two years and graduated from Multimedia Design and Production. I stay up to date mainly by doing this 40 hours a week (they say the best way to learn a language is the go to the country, it’s the same for programming, I’m submersed in it on a daily basis). If I don’t have something (because new stuff comes out often), I have a subscription to Lynda.com that I use for online training so I can grasp the subject and expand from it through project development for clients I work with.
In terms of availability right now, I’d be willing to meet up whenever it is required provided it is outside of regular business hours (9-5). If it’s an essential meeting within these hours, I’ll book a day off, I just need a weeks notice and it can’t happen too often.
Skill Set (the super nerd-mo-tron stuff):
- Primary language: PHP; connected to MySQL or MSSQL
- Secondary language: ASP classic/VBScript; connected to MSSQL
- Primary data management: PHPMyAdmin for MySQL
- Secondary data management: SQL Server Management Studio for MSSQL
- I work with some feed systems using XML but it isn’t a huge forte of mine, I just dabble a bit
- Server management experience through Radmin, I monitor and manage 3 different web server environments
- Domain management, hosting management and some mail management experience
- HTML, CSS (Tableless designs), in the process of learning HTML5
- Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver CS4 Versions (Haven’t felt the need to upgrade to CS5 yet)
- jQuery/jQuery Plugins and Javascript
- MACs or Windows Machines… multiple OS’s (though I don’t think this really matters)
- Primary CMS: WordPress
- Secondary CMS: Joomla
I’ve been doing web development and design since 2003 and I’m looking to continue to make some strong relationships in the field. So if you’re interested in meeting me, or working with me, I’d love to hear from you!
Cheers,
